Meet Alison Lehrer, PCD(DONA)

In 1999, a colleague first told Alison Lehrer about the word "doula" — and she promised her sister a doula for her own birth one day. Years later, that promise came full circle: she became her sister's doula herself.

After a career in the entertainment industry, she left to found Supportive Start LLC, and has supported postpartum families through newborn care, multiples, premature infants, and postpartum depression.

Her approach is simple: be objective, non-judgmental support. She holds no preconceived notions of how a family should nurture and care for their child — instead, she helps parents trust their own instincts, build confidence, and find their footing. That includes making room for partners to play a full, confident role too.

Outside of work, she spends her time running, cooking, and reading.
